De wedstrijdleiding heeft besloten om Kovalainen en Hamilton vijf plaatsen terug te zetten op de startopstelling. In de laatste minuut reden zij extreem langzaam over de baan, terwijl Nick Heidfeld en Fernando Alonso nog een rondje moesten rijden en om de McLarens heen moesten manouvreren. In tegenstelling tot Raikkonen, Massa, Kubica en anderen die langzaam reden, reden de McLaren-coureurs op de racelijn. Kovalainen en Hamilton starten nu vanaf P8 en P9.
