Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream of conscious narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notion that a singer must have a conventionally good voice in order to perform, thereby redefining the vocalist's role in popular music. As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock. And that just touches on the tip of his achievements. Dylan's force was evident during his height of popularity in the '60s — the Beatles' shift toward introspective songwriting in the mid-'60s never would have happened without him — but his influence echoed throughout several subsequent generations, as many of his songs became popular standards and his best albums became undisputed classics of the rock & roll canon. Dylan's influence throughout folk music was equally powerful, and he marks a pivotal turning point in its 20th century evolution, signifying when the genre moved away from traditional songs and toward personal songwriting. Bob Dylan, wie kent hem niet? Meeste geniale singer/songwriter ooit, die na 33 studioalbums en 47 jaar in de muziekbusiness nog steeds veel succes heeft. (getuige zijn laatste album 'Together through life' dat naar #1 ging in meerdere landen, inclusief UK)

Het tekstje hierboven vat wel samen hoe geniaal Dylan is. Het heeft geen nut het allemaal te vertalen in het Nederlands, dus daarom plaats ik hier gewoon wat heerlijke nummers. Het is erg moeilijk een selectie te maken uit ~500 nummers, dus plaats ik maar wat bekende nummers van hem.

Erg bekend nummer, en deze live uitvoering is best speciaal. Dylan was net over gegaan op elektrische gitaren en zijn fans vonden het maar niets en schelden hem voor 'judas!' uit. Dylan antwoord daarmee op de enige gepaste manier:

"I don't believe you, you're a liar"

"Play it fucking loud"

Voor een opgehitst publiek zoiets roepen, moet je toch lef voor hebben;

Bob Dylan is geweldig . Vind vooral zijn nummer Hey mr tambourine man een goed nummer. Oorspronkelijk kende ik alleen dit nummer van The byrds die dit hadden gecovert. Maar die van Bob Dylan is veel beter, veel rauwer gewoon.

En Bob was natuurlijk ook de man die The Beatles voor het eerst liet kennismaken met drugs.
