Atlanta, GA (AHN) - Professional wrestler Chris Benoit and his family were found dead inside their Atlanta home Monday evening, and although law enforcement officials are not providing details about the grisly scene, reports say they were not shot to death.
Fayette County authorities confirmed that Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and their 7-year-old son, Daniel, were all found dead in their home on Quarters and Redwine roads in Fayetteville County at approximately 4 p.m.
The Canadian-born Benoit, 40, wrestled in Canada for years before joining the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling, and later, World Wrestling Entertainment. Benoit was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles in his career.
Benoit was scheduled to wrestle at the 'Vengeance' pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what WWE ringside announcer Jim Ross described as "personal reasons."
World Wrestling Entertainment issued a press release about Benoit's death.
"World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home," the statement reads.
"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.
The organization said on its Web site said that Monday night's broadcast of "Raw" on the USA Network will "serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family."
Nou wie het weet mag het zeggen. Worstelaar, vrouw en kind dood gevonden; wat is er gebeurd? Er zijn geen schoten gevallen.
