Microsoft hasn't finished tinkering with Windows 7 yet, but the operating system should be released to manufacturers and the public later this year or early next year. So what's next? Windows 8, of course, although odds are Microsoft will come up with yet another naming convention by the time it's launched, so that probably won't be its name.
The company has posted several job listings for developers to help with work on Windows 8. So while it's awfully early for anyone to say much of anything about the next, next generation Windows operating system. But it looks like one thing Microsoft is working on is an improved version of its DFSR file system service, which stands for Distributed File System Replication. This service is focused on keeping files and folders synchronized across multiple servers and it will likely show up in Windows 8 and Windows 8 Server.
Windows 8 is scheduled for release in 2011 or 2012.
