Rockstar Games heeft op zijn Newswire de details bekend gemaakt over de backwards compatibility van games op de PlayStation 5 en Xbox Series X/S. Beide consoles komen later deze maand officieel uit en volgens Rockstar kunnen spelers direct verder waar ze gebleven waren op de PlayStation 4 of Xbox One.

 

Uiteraard vallen Grand Theft Auto V en Red Dead Redemption 2 onder de games die backwards compatible zijn, net als de meeste recente versies van L.A. Noire (inclusief de PlayStation VR-versie L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files). Ook alle andere GTA-games die uitgekomen zijn voor de huidige generatie consoles gaan mee: GTA III, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas en GTA IV inclusief Episodes from Liberty City.

 

Als je de betreffende game fysiek hebt, dan is het een kwestie van het schijfje in je gloednieuwe console stoppen. Mocht dat niet het geval zijn, dan kan je de game direct downloaden als deze gekoppeld is aan je PlayStation Network of Xbox Live account, inclusief je save files. Saves en zelfs volledige games kunnen ook tussen consoles overgezet worden via LAN, draadloze verbinding of USB-opslag. Uiteraard behoud je je voortgang in GTA Online en Red Dead Online.

 

Ter afsluiting meldt Rockstar dat spelers met PlayStation Plus nog steeds elke maand GTA$ 1.000.00 krijgen als zijn inloggen op de PlayStation 4-versie van GTA Online totdat de nieuwe losstaande versie van GTA Online voor de PlayStation 5 in 2021 uitgekomen is. Komend jaar wordt tevens een uitgebreide en verbeterde versie van GTA V verwacht voor de nieuwe consoles.

    Ja, helaas alleen de Xbox inderdaad. Aangezien er geen backwards compatibility met de PS3 is. Een remaster van GTA IV The Complete Edition zou mooi zijn voor de PS5.

    Op dat punt ben ik inderdaad iets te kort door de bocht geweest. Ik heb het lijstje onderaan bijgewerkt voor welke consoles de games gelden.
